Urinary incontinence
Urinary incontinence is the Involuntary leakage of urine.This can have significant impact on once quality of life .This could be do to weak pelvic floor muscles,abnormal spasms of urinary bladder or overflow of urine due to obstruction in urinary system.
Common investigations
Uroflowmetry-non invasive measurement of urine flow. Ultrasound scan- To ensure that there is complete emptying of the urinary tract. Flexible cystoscopy-Camera test done under local numbing gel to visualize any obstruction of the lower urinary tract.
Urine tests- To rule out urinary infection.
Urodynamic study-Test aimed to measure the pressure of the bladder using catheters.
Treatment
Medical treatment includes anticholinergic medications to calm down abnormal spasms, medications to strengthen urinary sphincter and medications to releave obstruction.
